It was not Count Orlov, who birched women "in lace and finery" using so complex and original machinery. It was mr. Sheshkovsky a chief of the Secret Chancellery at the court of Catherine the Great - a sort of KGB of that time. This scene included in one of the russian historical movies...
By the way, the chief of KGB of Stalin's time comrade Abakumoff liked to use no less original manner to punish ladies of quality from Kremlin for their wrong behavior - he usually forced them to strip naked in his office, then ordered to his adjutants to wrap them in dusty floor carpet, leaving their bodies fully exposed from waist down. After that, they stretched their victims upon the desk, or more common, simply on parquet and Abakumoff with one's own hand started to flog the poor beauties across their hips and buttocks, while his helpers was turning them face up and face down. The punished women not only suffered the awful pain caused by the buckle of the Abakumoff's belt, the victims could hardly breathe inside the carpet, swallowing the dust...
